Sir Fisher, on the Fortaleza seafront

We face the sea on Avenida Beira Mar, the seafront avenue where most of Fortaleza walks in the evening. Sir Fisher is a stop for people already out on the promenade: fish, prawns, Brazilian dishes and a few recipes that carry the British side of the name.

We are across from the Japanese Garden, within walking distance of most Beira-Mar hotels. Late in the afternoon the view changes with the sunset, and it gets hard to be in a hurry.

What comes to the table

Prawns, fish, cuts of meat to share and small plates for the table. Our fish and chips is made with pescada amarela — acoupa weakfish, caught off the coast of Ceará, and the local stand-in for cod. That one has a page of its own in English.

Late afternoon here

Some days the sunset becomes part of the order. The tables face the Meireles seafront, and once the sun starts dropping it gets hard to rush.

In Fortaleza it goes down between 5:25 pm and 5:56 pm depending on the month — we sit close to the equator, so the hour barely moves across the year and there is no daylight saving time. The light starts to turn about 40 minutes earlier. For a table facing the water, come around 4:00 pm.

Do I need to book?

Not always — a good part of the room is first come, first served. Booking is worth it at sunset, at weekends and on public holidays. The booking site asks for a name, a date and a number of people, and confirms immediately.

For groups larger than ten, message us on WhatsApp instead, so we can check the room first.
